Take A Second Look At Rose Wine

0

It used to be that the rose wine was seen as undeserving of any consideration by wine enthusiasts, as these people remained determined to concentrate their attention on the classic red and white varieties. The more recent bottles have actually improved the status appeal of this wine, as seen by good reviews and an increased appearance in notable dining scenes.  Although it still remains to be seen if it has gained a place in many a collector’s cellars, it has definitely risen in esteem and reputation in most households and restaurants. More people are now drinking a glass with their meals, and pulling out a bottle of wine rose at the check-out counter is no longer something to be embarrassed about.

A lot of people assume that this drink is sweet and pink all the time, and so it is ideal for women only. Where they get this idea from is not known, as rose can come in a variety of flavors and textures just like your reds and whites. The colors can also vary, from a pale pink to a vibrant fuchsia. These variations are dependent on the grape used and the method of extraction applied. What is more commonly used is the saignee method of bleeding some liquid off from the red wine after only a minimal time of contact with the grape skins. This produces the light shade of pink or peach that most wine rose have. This color intensifies according to the amount of time it remained in contact with the skins.

It is good that we finally can appreciate this third variety of wine for what it truly is – an all-around option that can be enjoyed on its own or with a light or fairly heavy  meal, not only for the summer but also in the middle of autumn. There are darker varieties that can almost be considered full-bodied, and these will work well with a good turkey dinner. Be open with your rose wine selections, and you’ll have a broader wine experience to be proud of.
