How To Make Wine In Your Own Kitchen

Making wine can be a very interesting hobby. No, you do not need to live in a vineyard in order to make wine. As long as you have access to supply of good fresh gapes, you can already experiment and concoct your own drinks. Will any types of grapes do. Unfortunately, now all types of grapes will give you good tasting wine so be very careful when it comes to choosing the right types of grapes. If you do not have any idea what type of grapes give you the best results, do some research on the different types of grapes so that you will have some ideas which ones are good and which ones are not.

Making Your Wine

Making wine takes a long process. First, you squeeze the juice out from the grapes and then add yeast. One packet of yeast is enough for five gallons of juice. Now, when adding yeast into your grape juice, do not just dump the yeast into the juice and keep your fingers crossed that everything will work out just fine. Although trial and error is a good way to learn things, this method can be quite costly on your part so you better follow the well established rules when it come to adding yeast into your grape juice.

What is the correct way to add yeast into you grape juice to make wine. Hydrate your yeast first before you add it on the grape juice. The procedure on how to hydrate the yeast is usually printed on the package of the yeast so follow this procedure carefully and do not make any shortcuts. Yes, it is tempting to just pour warm liquid into the cup and pour the yeast into it but if you really want your wine to taste good, you better follow the directions on the how to hydrate the yeast to the letter. After adding yeast into the grape juice, add sulfite. According to experts, adding potassium metabisulfite activates the good yeast cells and prevents the bad yeast from ruining your juice.

Once you have added all necessary ingredients into your juice, you are now ready to ferment your juice. Store the grape juice in a large sanitary food grade container and then cover the container with clean cheese cloth. If you do not want to use cheese cloth, a clean screen is a good alternative. Leave your primary fermentor open to prevent spillage. Note that the liquid with boil violently when you ferment, so be sure to leave the top of the container open to serve as a breathing area. The fermentation process should last for 5-7 days.

After fermenting, you need rack the juice and discard the sediments from the fermentor. Let the liquid stay in the container for 1 month before you rack it again. After racking the liquid, store it again for three months. At the end of the third month, you will need to rack the liquid again before you stabilize and put it in a wine bottle.
